John’s newsletter from Eastham Unit n°50
15th of April 2010
Dear all,
For a while now John has been able to call members of his family, namely his Mom and his Dad and Stepmom, over the phone. His family had Tina’s electronic address and also mine, so we are sure to know immediately if something interesting happens to John – either a decision from the Federal District Court, or a transfer to another unit, for instance. It’s a new service provided to the inmates. Or course they must pay for it from their commissary account, but it’s very useful!

How is John doing these days?
Lately I received two letters from John. He seems to be rather fine, at any rate he is very focused and determined to do all that is necessary to win his freedom. He did a lot of work out recently, but hurt his rotator cuff by lifting weights, so he stopped all work out for the last ten days now.
What’s new about his judicial procedure?
Absolutely no news whatsoever from the Federal District Court. It’s been five years now since John’s federal appeal was filed in Federal Court. But John confirmed me that there is absolutely no set time line required to rule on an appeal. The courts must do all the appeals in the order first in first out, so all the appeals that were filed before John’s will be finalized before John’s appeal can be finalized. The courts do it on their own time, and according to John’s former attorney, it’s best not to rush the appeal court, like to be calling or whatever, all John can do, all we can do is wait. John’s attorney will let him know as soon as something happens on his case. So the only thing we can do to help is keep collecting money so we can go on paying John’s attorney as soon as the Federal District Courts rules and the next step of the appeal starts.
